                                                     Numbers 4:21- Numbers 7:1
                                                         Judges 13:2-5
                The Torah Portion Naso means to Take UP. The Torah portion discusses the responsibilities of the Gershonite and Merarite clans of the Levitical tribes. It brings forth details of the Levitical census which G-D required. Nasso discusses who is to be outside the camp (specifically those who had leprosy or individuals who had come into contact with a dead body). When people unintentionally break the Torah G-D requires confession of sin and repayment plus an additional 20 %. The portion gives instructions how about unconfirmed adultery is to be tested and what happen with positive and negative results.  The instructions for those who wish to take a Nazirite vow are laid out. The Torah portion concludes with the only prayer The Holy One in Israel ever wrote to be said only by Kohanim over Israel and the consecration of the Mishkan.
            My focus this week is on TAKING UP NASO, Teshuva, true repentance.In western society today most people equate repentance with saying I am sorry. The Biblical Hebraic understanding is far different. The definition for sorry is - Grieved for the loss of some good; pained for some evil that has happened to one's self or friends or country. It does not ordinarily imply severe grief, but rather slight or transient regret.Websters 1828 part a. With G-D and our fellow human beings sorry is not repentance and sorry is not enough.    What is the Biblical Hebraic understanding of Repentance TSHUVAH –Repentance in Hebrew means-The idea of repentance is a return to the path of righteousness. It includes steps of confessing the sin, asking forgiveness, when possible restitution and  always a complete change of behavior, thought, and action going forward. Adonai said to Moshe, “Tell the people of Isra’el, When a man or woman commits any kind of sin against another person and thus breaks faith with Adonai, he incurs guilt. He must confess the sin which he has committed; and he must make full restitution for his guilt, add twenty percent and give it to the victim of his sin. But if the person has no relative to whom restitution can be made for the guilt, then what is given in restitution for guilt will belong to Adonai, that is, to the Cohen — in addition to the ram of atonement through which atonement is made for him
For this is what Adonai Elohim,
the Holy One of Isra’el, says:
“Returning and resting is what will save you;
calmness and confidence will make you strong —
but you want none of this! Yeshayahu 30:15
19 “Therefore, repent and turn to God, so that your sins may be erased; 20 so that times of refreshing may come from the Lord’s presence; and he may send the Messiah appointed in advance for you, that is, Yeshua.   Acts 3:19-20 CJB .Lastly Yeshua stated If you have really turned from your sins to God, produce fruit that will prove it!  Mathew 3
           As people in covenant relationship with G-D we need to take teshuva seriously. We are not done with a two second I’m sorry. Romans 2:5 Complete Jewish Bible (CJB) But by your stubbornness, by your unrepentant heart, you are storing up anger for yourself on the Day of Anger, when God’s righteous judgment will be revealed   Revelation 3:3  CJB  So remember what you received and heard, and obey it, and turn from your sin! For if you don’t wake up, I will come like a thief; and you don’t know at what moment I will come upon you.Revelation3:3   . There is no getting away with sin .We can be cleansed and forgiven G-D it takes action it take practical steps of returning which are to be lived out consistently going forward in life .

   So how do we live out teshuva? We confess to G-D and to those we wronged that we have sinned .Second if there is a way to give them restitution we do so .We go forward after that differently permanently aligned with G-Ds Torah we conform our thoughts words and actions to his will instead of our feelings, wants, and perspective. I highly advise this since a lack of repentance brings a serious set of consequences in this life and in the Eternal Kingdom. Ending on a positive note when we truly repent G-D brings blessings. What blessings? We are forgiven, and   G-D blesses us with rest, acts of salvation,
calmness ,confidence, and strength .
 For this is what Adonai Elohim,
 the Holy One of Isra’el, says:
“Returning and resting is what will save you;
 calmness and confidence will make you strong —
 but you want none of this! Yeshayahu 30:15
         I humbly invite each person, married couple, family, congregation and people to NASO take up Teshuva . Bring blessings into your  lives as a result of Teshuva. We all have Teshuva we need to do let’s get to it.

Working out my teshuva,
Tree of Life
